LCMM,
Luke Christian Medical Mission, was originally founded by a
group of Christians who had a burden for medical missions. In
the 60’s, Dr. Stewart Wu and his associates in the medical field
started a free clinic in a church basement in the Chinatown
in Chicago.

Through medical care, they were able to share God’s love and
gospel and brought many to church and Christ. In the 70’s, when
Finnish mission board decided to relinquish ownership of two
Taiwanese hospitals, Ping-Tung and Heng-Chun, to the native
Christians, Dr. Wu and others in Taiwan faithfully responded.
Thus, the organization known in Chinese as the Luke Medical
Fellowship was formed. In English, the organization became Luke
Christian Medical Mission. Dr. Wu in 1988 proposed to Dr. David
Lee, a dentist who was in Fuller Theological Seminary, studying
to be a full time missionary, to take up the challenge and establish
a chapter of LCMM in the States, and to continue spreading the
vision of medical mission in North America. |
